Congratulations to The Maple Quartet for placing second in the 2025 Frances Walton Competition that took place Saturday, May 31 at Seattle Opera’s Tagney Jones Hall. As 1 of 3 chamber ensemble finalists, each member of the Maple Quartet received an award of $250 and professional photography and video of their competition performance. Violinists Isabel Chen ’25E and Magali Pelletey ’25E, ’25, cellist Gabriel Hennebury ’25E, and violist John Crowley ’25E formed the Maple Quartet in August 2022 while students at the Eastman School of Music and were recognized as the 2023-24 recipients of the inaugural Celentano String Quartet Award, honoring current students who demonstrate exceptional achievement in the study and performance of chamber music. Now recent graduates, Isabel, John, and Gabriel earned their Bachelor of Music Degree in Performance from Eastman while Magali completed the dual degree program at the University of Rochester, receiving a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Eastman and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the School of Arts and Sciences.
