This is a yearlong course divided into two semesters.
Counterpoint is an in-depth look at both the sacred style of the late Renaissance as well as late Baroque counterpoint in the style of Bach. Students will learn to analyze the music of these periods as well as compose various pieces in multiple styles including an imitative duo, an invention, and a fugue.
Prerequisite: Music Theory and Aural Skills 4
